Julia King was born in Cumbria and has lived in the area throughout her career.  She attended Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Penrith leaving there to attend University at the London School of Economics followed by her qualifying examinations to become enrolled as a Solicitor. Julia served her articles with the current firm’s predecessors, then known as Harrison Grainger & Reed, when they developed their town centre premises in King Street, Penrith.

Julia has remained with the same firm throughout her career, initially being employed as an Assistant Solicitor before becoming a Partner with the firm in 1985. Since 2008 Julia has practised as a Consultant Solicitor within the firm.

During a career which has extended over thirty five years, Julia has worked exclusively in the Penrith office within the Matrimonial and Family Law Department. She has built up an extensive local practice and has acted for many privately paying and publicly funded clients in all aspects of Family Law and continues to do so. 

During the latter two decades of her career Julia has also pursued her interest in the representation of parents, wider family members and children in public law Children’s Act Proceedings and is an accredited specialist on the Law Society’s Children’s Panel, and in recent years has provided legal advice to Local Authority Independent Reviewing Officers in matters concerning the involvement of Children's services.

Julia’s status as Consultant within the office allows for her extensive skills, not only to be utilised in acting directly for clients, but also to provide further advice and support within the Matrimonial and Family Law Department generally.
